So the odometer on the 450SL wasn’t working. a quick search of Youtube showed how to remove and fix it, and after a successful trial run on the odometer of the parts SL I took out the other one. And I’m pleased to say that after a drive around town I saw this:

Kinja'd!!!

Both the trip and total mileage odometers had moved up by 10 miles.

As Ed would say,“Result!”

When I was in HS, I drove an old beat up 80s Chevy pickup. That picture you posted brought back some memories. Its weird how 2 vehicles so different from each other can have those similarities.

It’s probably not as strange as it may at first seem. The car companies source lots of their parts from other vendors, and so lots of parts are actually interchangeable so long as you don’t mind a different logo. My SL quite possibly had an AC Delco AC compressor as the original, and it just had a Merc logo stamped into it. It’s at least exactly the same one as goes into lots of 80s GMs.

Oh definitely. Working in the auto industry for a while, I have learned exactly that. Makes me laugh when people say things like, “Ill never buy another XX because part XX keepa breaking.” And they have no idea every other car on the road is rolling around with the same component.

Seems like you missed an opportunity to rollback to odometer and sell it as mint.

Well, the title is already marked as incorrect mileage that is in excess of 132,000 so that wouldn’t work very well. I guess it could have been done for the fun of it though.
